An interesting article on Damien Hirst's recent Tate retrospective. The critics haven't been favourable.

March thoughts from Jo over at Blue Parakeet Coaching:

Your values are fundamental to who you are. Knowing clearly what your values are – what you hold dear – is vital for your self-esteem. It’s really important to ensure that the environment and culture where you live and work fits with your own values. Being in a situation where those around you hold diametrically opposed values to yours is a sure fire recipe for discontent.

You may have a clear idea what your values are, but they may change through time as we have different experiences and grow. Or you may get to a point where you feel you need to clarify where you are and what’s really important to you. You may be going through a period of change and re-assessment of your life. Thinking through what is fundamentally important to you can be a useful in making decisions or evaluating choices.

This is an exercise that can help you think about your values:

The following is a list contains words or phrases that illustrate values. Go through the list and, underline or highlight those that resonate with you.

Humor, Participation, Directness, Performance, Partnership, Collaboration, Productivity, Community, Service, Personal Power, Contribution, Freedom to Choose, Excellence, Connectedness, Free Spirit, Acknowledgment, Focus, Comradeship, Romance, Lightness, Recognition, Spirituality, Harmony, Empowerment, Accomplishment, Full Self-Expression, Orderliness, Integrity, Forward the Action, Creativity, Honesty, Independence, Success, Nurturing, Accuracy, Joy, Adventure, Beauty, Lack of Pretence, Authenticity, Zest, Risk Taking, Tradition, Peace, To Be Known, Elegance, Growth, Vitality, Aesthetics, Trust

When you’ve done that, see if you can narrow it down to ten values – what are your top ten? Write out your list…

When you have that see if you can further condense it to three? What are the three things that are really important and fundamental to your life? What does each of these mean to you in detail? What does each value bring to your life?

I’d love to hear back from those of you who have followed the exercise through. What did it bring up for you? Were you surprised by your answers? Has it influenced what you are doing now?

_Who cares how many trade publishing deals David Gaughran has or hasn't had. Let's Get Digital deserves to be a bestseller for its clarity, authoritive voice and sheer usefulness. One to nurture January's resolve.

Not only is this a mind blowing piece of surfing, it's also an interesting look at facing the fear and doing it anyway.
